Stemming Soybean Diseases

Soybean disease can be reduced by tilling soybean stubble. Iowa State Plant Pathologist X. B. Yang says many foliar and stem diseases live in soybean residue, but if the residue is buried with tillage, it decomposes and the fungi die. Among those are white mold, SDS and Phythophthora. However, Rhizoctonia and SCN are not affected by tillage.
