New Soybean Management Resources Now Available Online

Apr 17, 2007 2:39 PM

Before soybean growers head to the fields this spring, they can stop at the computer to view updated management and profitability information on the Soybean 2010 Web site, http://web1.msue.msu.edu/soybean2010/.

The site has been updated to include new soybean management information aimed at helping Michigan soybean producers increase yields and farm profitability. It features nine new soybean fact sheets covering key management topics.

"Three of these fact sheets are especially timely right now," says Mike Staton, Michigan State University (MSU) Extension educator and Soybean 2010 coordinator. "They cover calibrating soybean drills; the risks, benefits and recommendations for early-planted soybeans, and soybean seed inoculants."

The site also features links to other useful soybean management sites at MSU, the Ohio State University, Iowa State University, Purdue University, the University of Missouri, USDA and the Ontario Ministry of Food and Rural Affairs. Much of the information provided at these sites is applicable to Michigan.

The results of the 2005 soybean grower survey are also posted on the Web site. The survey showed that high-yield producers used key management practices more extensively and consistently than low-yield producers. Soybean growers can use the survey results to identify management areas that may be limiting their yields.

For more information about improving Michigan's soybean crop, visit the Soybean 2010 Web page at http://web1.msue.msu.edu/soybean2010/.
