FIGHT AGAINST SOYBEAN RUST
Oct 1, 2003 12:00 PM, Compiled By Greg Lamp
State soybean checkoff boards, along with USB, have invested $380,000 in checkoff dollars to fight the deadly disease Asian soybean rust.
Research is critical, says USB, especially since South American fields suffered a $1 billion yield loss due to rust last season.
“We need to do all we can to minimize the rust problem. That's being done through coordinated efforts by USB, USDA-Agriculture Research Services, the North Central Soybean Research Program and individual state soybean checkoff boards,” says Bryan Heiser, chairman of USB's production research committee and soybean producer from Minier, IL.
